Working with Torsion

Currently attempting to find out the optimum orientation of the carbon fibre. working on the basis of where the steel version would fail and then hoping to use the angle of torsion at this point to create the carbon fibre piece

Moulding Box

My plug design

Torsion of rectangular cross section

the rectangle equations will apply to the flat section of the torsion bar

the expectancy is that there will be greater stresses in the plate. thus why strain gauges have been placed in that section

the torsion bar

As of time of writing, carbon fibre bar still to be produced. FEA work to be started within next 2 weeks beginning with the production of a 3D on solid-works
Torsion Bars in F1

Caterham F1 Team Chief Engineer Gianluca Pisanello explains what torsion bars are and the role they play in setting up a Formula 1 car for Brazil's Interlagos circuit.

PurdueMET -
This is the first video in a series showing how strain gauges work. In this video, I show you how to calculate the resistance of a wire and how that resistance rises as the wire is stretched due to a tensile load. I also explain how this allows us to make a strain sensor

as a wire is stretched, its length increases changing the resistivity of the wire.

a typical strain gauge

typically the gauge factor is not much more than 2. it is provided by the strain gauge manufacturers

A steel torsion bar had already been strain gauged before I began my project
